Geoff McDonald on Coast Live Talk Show: Camp Lejeune
On Friday, September 23rd, Geoff McDonald joined the team on the Coast Live Talk Show to talk about Camp Lejeune. Geoff founded the Virginia Personal Injury and Workers’ Compensation law firm, Geoff McDonald & Associates, over 30 years ago. Since then, Geoff has been the CEO of the firm. Geoff has obtained more than $500 million in verdicts and settlements for his clients. Geoff was a scholarship athlete at UVA and part of the ‘84 Peach Bowl Championship team.
Camp Lejeune is a Marine Corps base camp that was built in 1941. In 1953 toxic water began leaking into the drinking water at Camp Lejeune and the surrounding areas. The water was tested in the early 1980s, and the problem was fixed in 1987.
Following the passage of the Camp Lejeune Justice Act, people who were harmed by the toxic water are now in a unique position of strength to receive just compensation for the numerous illnesses and diseases that were caused by the toxic water at Camp Lejeune. Also, for people who have tried and lost their Camp Lejeune case in the past, this legislation is necessary. If they deny your claim, you are now entitled to a trial by jury.
Geoff McDonald & Associates is focusing on Camp Lejeune cases because this is personal for them. They have Marines on their team who have “walked the walk” and have been affected by the toxic water at Camp Lejeune. If you think you have a Camp Lejeune case, call Geoff McDonald & Associates today.
So what does this mean for viewers?
If you or a loved one were at Camp Lejeune or the surrounding area between 1953-1987, you were exposed to toxic water. If you have experienced one of the covered conditions, you may qualify under the Camp Lejeune Justice Act. Keep in mind that you must have spent 30 or more days at Camp Lejeune between 1953 and 1987 to qualify, but the 30 days do not have to be consecutive. If you are in the unfortunate circumstance where your loved one has died from one of these conditions, you can still file suit on your loved one’s behalf.
When should you call a lawyer to file suit?
There is a two-year statute of limitations which began on August 8th, 2022. So time is of the essence; you want to call an attorney as soon as possible to get to work on your case.
What got you and your firm involved with Camp Lejeune?
The COO of Geoff McDonald & Associates, Curt Powell, was a Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel who served for 23 years. Curt was stationed at Camp Lejeune from 1979 to 1984. Three family members died from cancer, and two were affected after living on base. Curt believes that the Marines signed up for the risks, but their families did not.
The Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022 stipulates a two-year statute of limitations for related lawsuits, with the final date for filing being August 10, 2024. Consequently, we are unable to accept any new Camp Lejeune cases. If you or a loved one has suffered injuries in a similar situation, we are available to provide assistance.
